This is one of the most iconic logo in all of design
history. It’s the Mitsubishi logo for Mitsubishi Motors. As a proud owner of a
2007 Mitsubishi Lancer I couldn’t help myself, but put this logo in. The design
is very simple and very symmetrical too. No matter which side you look or even
how you tilt and spin the logo around it’s going to stay the same. I like
symmetry in design. Symmetry in design creates a sense of calmness. Of course
when things are placed off center they can create a sense of interest which is
exactly what I learned from Tony Longston who taught my computer graphic design
class. That sense of interest from an off center design can also be a bad thing
if that design is horrible one because it would drive people away. Symmetry in
design can make a horrible design pleasing to the eyes because of how even and
same everything is. This could have been the exact reason why Mitsubishi went
for a symmetrical design…they didn’t want to drive away their customer so they
went with the safe choice.
The three diamond shapes in the design could also represent
wealth. What large corporation doesn’t want to gain some sort of wealth or
success in their existence. A company that exudes wealth even in their design
is a company that people will flock to support because most people are in
pursuit of wealth or to appear wealthy.
