This is one of the most iconic junk food logo that you will
ever find. The only other logo that comes to mind that is even remotely close
to the Pepsi logo would have to be its main rival Coca Cola. Not much has
change about the Pepsi logo ever since 1950. Before then the logo was
completely different than what is seen today. Instead the Pepsi logo, from its
very beginning in 1898 to the 1950s, was a very classy almost cursive font used
to display the word Pepsi Cola. The red white and blue globe was never used.
That eventually changed in the 1950s and beyond when the logo evolved into the
circular red white and blue globe logo that we all know and love today.
The
logo is very simplistic and the wavy lines used for the red white and blue
section give off a sense of flow or the idea of liquid which again assist Pepsi
with the notion that it will quench your thirst. This is further confirmed by
the catch phrase that went with the logo back in the 1950’s “Pepsi Cola Hits the
Spot.” The word “Pepsi” was once placed in the center of the logo where the
white section is, but in recent years the word Pepsi instead was placed
separately to the right making the logo look much sleeker and gives off a more
modern design to appeal to the youth of today. Even with this slight alteration
the Pepsi logo hasn’t changed much in years which gives off a sense of
familiarity. Older Pepsi aficionado will see the logo and think back to their
childhood and their very first taste of this American icon. Speaking of
American icon it’s very noticeable that Pepsi is also a very patriotic drink as
well. Using the very colors of the American flag the Pepsi logo represents one
of American great contribution to the junk food world.
One thing that I would
change slightly is to once again place the Pepsi font in the center white area
of the logo. The font could actually flow with the slight curves of the red and
blue borders. This is my own two cents of course.
