A Classic

Here we have the Vans logo. Vans to me make the best pairs of shoes in the entire industry and their logo isn’t too shabby either. There are different variations to the logo placed on different merchandises like clothing, shoes and even skateboard, but the font style stays relatively the same. The logo and lettering is very simplistic using bold lettering with the right tip of the “V” extending to the right of the logo as it pushes your attention to the rest of it. This specific logo in my pair of Vans shoes is slightly different in the sense that logo is actually tilted and not aligned perfectly horizontal.  I imagine that this was done on purpose to give off a sense of non-conformity with society idea of order.

As a former skater most of us are seen as a nuisance to society. We are chased out of public spaces because of the way we dress or the images on our clothing, boards and shoes might be a little too much for the general public. I get this sensation looking at this Vans logo.

Also having the logo slightly titled and also not fitting directly with the borders creates a sense of interest. In the computer Graphic Design class that was taught by Tony Longston, he stressed that interest in a design can be created if the design if maybe off center or off axis. This draws the viewer into the design to investigate the awkwardness and leads them to possibly find and appreciate the smaller details of the design. The Vans logo is one of the most iconic designs in the history of skateboarding. It’s both simplistic and also complicated at the same time.
