Guns & Roses

If you’re into rock then you know about Gun’s and Roses. There still popular after all these years and here’s one of their logos. I actually got this logo from the game Guitar Hero in which their songs are used. I’ve always been interested in the designs and logos of both Metal , Rock and Punk music groups and merchandises because they are always different and very out there. Here were see a simple combination of both guns and roses. The unique part that I notice is the little details. Notice that the vines of the Roses actually wrap around the gun itself. It’s a nice little touch that didn’t have to be done, but was anyways.

Also the letter form or font is perfectly chosen. The font gives off a very old school late 1800’s western vibe while also having this modern twist too it. You get this sense that it wants to represent the old west because of the Guns in guns and roses, but that it also didn’t want to lean too far to the old west and wanted to appeal to the more modern crowded.

The thing that I would change about this design is to do something different and unique with the center of the logo. It looks like some kind of fabric was placed their and it just seems boring compared to the rest of the design. Anything would work. Another rose, a skull a guitar and maybe even a music note could fit in. Just add something to the rather boring space.

Pac Man Waka Waka Waka

Everyone should notice this iconic logo. Whether you’re a real hardcore gamer like myself or more of the casual fan you should have at least once in your life time played Pac Man or in this case Pac Man better half, Ms. Pac Man. The logo here is done quite beautifully. Ms Pac Man is shown in a very seductive pose and another character in the Pac Man universe is also present which is the Ghost.
Oddly enough Pac Man himself is not present and I would have love to see him somewhere in the logo too since you play as him trying to get to Ms. Pac Man.

Another interesting point about this unique logo is the use of very human like features for both Ms. Pac Man and the Ghost. Whoever designed this logo didn’t want to use the cartoony style seen in other Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man merchandise, but instead wanted to add their own style and unique twist to design. I think it turned out really good.

The lettering is also well done too. Pac Man himself is actually incorporated into the “C” in Pac. The logo also has this very nostalgic 1970’s feel to it. You wouldn’t see this this type of heavy block like letterform nowadays since ever one wants something sleek, but you would see this in the 1970’s and possibly 80’s since back then the logo where going for a more funky fun design.

Another Strange Choice

Another interesting design choice for my blog hit me the very first day I attended Cal State L.A. I found the names or titles outside the various building at Cal State Los Angeles to be a perfect example of contemporary design. The design is very simple with clean lines and a very modern font that isn’t too dramatic or in your face. Font decisions are very important depending on the type of feeling or vibe you want to present or create. You wouldn’t use a very renaissance to medieval like font for the labels in Cal State L.A. because it wouldn’t fit the overall mood that institution is about. Instead the font that was used is a very modern and easily read font that presents an overall professional feeling.

The decision to use metal also serves as an example of both form as well as function. Not only is the metallic color reflective enough to draw people’s attention it also makes the lettering easier to read too and this is especially important when you’re in a rush to find a specific building. The metallic lettering is also placed on top of red bricks. This creates a sense of contrast that makes the lettering pop out more to the viewer rather than blend in. Again this decision could have been on purpose since labels or titles for building need to be easily read.

A Strange Choice

This is probably one of the odder choices that I’ve used as an example of good design. I love the classy quality that exudes from the case design. The use of a blue foam like cushion to support the compass and also the compass being in a clear case gives off an aura of high quality. Where else would you see a tool having this much care placed into just the container that it is kept in. The use of blue for the cushion foam is also a great choice. The blue essentially creates contrast with the silver and black of the compass and makes the tools pop out to the viewer.

I believe that the targeted audience would be any sort of high end designer whose looking for a tool that not only can be used, but also be rather attractive or pleasing to the eyes as well. This case accomplishes that perfectly with it high quality materials as well as it looks.

Go Lakers!!

This is one of the most iconic logo you’ll ever find on one of my favorite piece of clothing to wear. It’s the logo of my favorite sports team of all time, The Los Angeles Lakers. You show this to 90% of the world and they will know exactly what it is and what organization it represent. The logo is very simple and elegant at the same time. A basketball serves as the background and the world “Los Angeles” is printed in a small size font above the word Lakers. This was most likely done on purpose because people are more familiar with the name Lakers then where that team comes from. When someone mentions purple and gold “The Lakers” are what comes to mind rather than Los Angeles.

Speaking of colors, purple and gold goes perfectly with what the Laker organization is and represent. Gold represent riches and success. This is exactly what the Lakers are with 16 championships under their belt and being second most in the entire NBA. The Lakers also boast one of the best winning records in all of professional sports and missed the playoff only a hand full of times. The purple that is used along with the gold is a nice off set color that isn’t too bright or two dark. It doesn’t dominate the gold nor does it shy away either. The purple is the perfect complimentary color to the color gold.

Let’s also take a look at the font that is used as well. The font that is used is a very simple font that is not too extravagant. It very clean and almost has a classy feel to it. This also represents the organization in which the Lakers are known as a very classy and respected organization. Everything that went into the design of the Lakers logo was made with the franchise history and what the franchise wants people to perceive it as in mind.
